The short version
Dayward works entirely on your phone. It has no account, no server and no internet permission. Your occasions, notes, photos and reminders are stored only on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else unless you yourself share an image or save a backup file.
We do not show ads. We do not use analytics or tracking. We do not sell data. We do not use any advertising identifier.
1. What Dayward stores, and where
| Data | Where it lives | Does it leave your phone? |
|---|---|---|
| Occasions you create (title, date, optional time, category, notes, colour theme) | Local database inside the app’s private storage | No |
| Copies of photos you attach | Two resized JPEG copies in the app’s private storage. Your original photo is never modified or deleted. | No |
| Reminder settings (how far ahead, what time) | Local database | No |
| Widget settings (which occasions each widget shows) | Local database | No |
| Preferences (default theme, sort order, whether past occasions are shown) | Local settings file | No |
| Images you share | Created in the app cache only when you tap Share, shown to you first, then handed to the app you choose | Only to the app you pick |
| Backup files | Written to the location you choose in the system file picker | Only where you save them |
Dayward does not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, calendar, device identifiers, usage statistics or crash reports.
2. Permissions
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS). Requested only when you turn on a reminder for an occasion. If you decline, everything else in Dayward keeps working; reminders simply cannot be shown.
- Run after restart (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED). Lets Dayward re-arm your reminders and refresh widgets after the phone reboots. No data is read or transmitted.
- Photos. Dayward uses the Android photo picker, which shows you your photos without giving the app access to your photo library. Only the single photo you choose is copied.
- Housekeeping permissions added by Android libraries (WAKE_LOCK, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE). The Android WorkManager library that draws the widgets declares these standard permissions. They are not shown to you as prompts and Dayward makes no use of them itself: the app has no internet permission, so it cannot send or receive anything, and it runs no foreground service.
Dayward deliberately does not request internet access, exact-alarm privileges, contacts, calendar, location, microphone or broad storage access.
3. Android backup and device transfer
Android may include Dayward’s database and settings in your Google account backup or in a device-to-device transfer, according to your phone’s backup settings. Photo copies are excluded from that backup to keep it small and private. If you restore Dayward on a new phone this way, your occasions return but attached photos show their colour theme instead. This system backup is controlled by Android and Google, not by Dayward; you can turn it off in your phone’s settings.
4. Sharing
When you tap Share image, Dayward renders a single picture containing the occasion title, the date and the day count. Your notes are included only if you tick “Include notes”. You see the exact image before it goes anywhere, and it is sent only to the app you select in the Android share sheet. That app’s own privacy policy then applies.
5. Backup files you create
Backup and restore in Settings writes a .zip file containing your occasions, reminder settings and photo copies to a location you choose. The file is under your control; Dayward does not upload it anywhere. Treat it like any other personal file. Restoring shows you what the file contains before anything changes.
6. Data deletion
Because Dayward keeps no copy of your data anywhere but your phone, you delete it yourself:
- One occasion: open it and tap Delete. You can undo immediately.
- Everything: Settings → Delete all Dayward data removes every occasion, reminder, widget setting and stored photo copy.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its private storage, including photo copies and settings.
Backup files you saved elsewhere, images you shared and Android system backups are outside the app and must be deleted where they live. Binary Data Technology holds no copy of your data and therefore has nothing further to delete; if you have any question about this, email support@binarydatatechnology.com with the subject “Dayward data deletion”.
7. Children
Dayward is a general-audience utility. It is not directed at children, and because it collects no personal data it does not knowingly collect any from anyone.
8. Third parties
Dayward is built with Android Jetpack and Kotlin libraries that run entirely on the device. It contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or social SDK.
9. Security
Your data is protected by Android’s app sandbox, which prevents other apps from reading Dayward’s private storage. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open Dayward, so use a screen lock if your occasions are private.
10. Changes to this policy
If Dayward ever changes how it handles data, this policy will be updated inside the app and at its public web address, with a new “Last updated” date. A change that adds any data collection would be announced in the app before it takes effect.
